What Meteor Games Is Doing Now
posted on January 2, 2009, 11:54 am PST by Terry

As we told you yesterday, the Meteor Games team has decided to switch from doing a 3D game to doing a 2D game set in an earlier time period (approximately 30 years). However, Adam didn't tell you this:

The 3D MMO isnt totally dead, its just put on ice for the time being. The 2D version will be set in the same world, just at a slightly different time period (we are still thinking about the best way to do this, so nothing is set in stone yet).

We are working on something in 3D, although it isnt specifically Twin Skies and I am not going to give any more details about that just yet. It is definitely very unique and interesting though.

For those of you wanting to see something 3D come out of the Meteor Games office, you will. :P

As a result of the switch, the Twin Skies main site will be quiet for a while -- it will stay around as a source for Twin Skies-related games and news, but will be changed around to remove some content relating to the MMO's release that may be misleading to some users.

The Twin Skies Team will also be posting previews of non-Twin Skies games on the Meteor Games site.

Change of Plans - Twin Skies Going 2D?
posted on January 1, 2009, 5:16 pm PST by Terry

According to Adam, Twin Skies may be going 2D! In a topic posted earlier today, he stated that it was a bad time to create a 3D game given the current economy. It was also said that the 2D game is going to keep all the elements of Twin Skies that have currently been released, such as the Classes, Races, NPCs, etc -- however, it'll be set approximately 30 years before the meteors began striking the two planets.

A lot of things have changed in the last few months, we've taken a few steps back and realised that creating a 3D MMO is really, really hard, especially in this economy. We've come so far with the design, quests, and lore, but we feel that it's just a really risky and bad time to try and follow through with our plans and complete the game. Donna and myself have a much stronger background in 2D content (at least that's what it says on our resumes) and this is the direction we feel the company should pursue.

So... we're not doing a 3D MMO any more. If things go well its certainly an option for us in the future, but its not something we're going to make a decision on for the next year at least. Twin Skies is going to be in 2D, made in Flash and it's going to be free to play. It'll be the same world, the same monsters, the same Canopy Elves, Humans, Merfolk, Walrus Men, Bus Drivers etc., however it will be set in a different period of time, before the meteors struck and all the chaos started happening.

Along with this shift also will also come a Twin Skies site update, as the site will become irrelevant when the 2D world comes out.

In addition to switching from 3D to 2D, they also said that they were developing a new petsite based on some elements of Twin Skies.

You can discuss this change (and the potentially new petsite) in our forums!

Concept Art: Merfolk and a Viking!
posted on January 1, 2009, 3:04 pm PST by Nynex

Although Adam is attempting to befuddle a number of the forum members at Twin Skies, he has released some new concept art images of the newest race, the Merfolk. He has also shared an image of a Viking who will be featured in a game due out this month. You can also see some of the new character hairstyles that you can customize with. Thanks for the cake Adam!

Happy Holidays & Third Race Update
posted on December 24, 2008, 3:26 pm PST by Pie

The TSH Staff would like to take this time to wish everyone a very happy and safe holiday!

Donna has also enlightened us with the name of the third race - Merfolk, and their holiday greetings!

Hi all

I realise we have been super quiet lately. As some of you have guessed it is the holiday season and a lot of people have taken some time off to go see their family and spread the Christmas/Kwanzaa/Hanukkah cheer.

We will all be back in January and have some big announcements for you guys which should help explain what we have been secretly working away at.

More pictures of our third race, the Merfolk, will be going up in the new year as well as some background information about them.

In the meantime we wish you an awesome Christmas and new year.

From Donna, Adam and all the folks at Meteor Games.

One-Player Tower Defense
posted on December 22, 2008, 10:36 am PST by Pie

EDIT 3: Images are fixed! :P Some images are currently broken.
EDIT 2: Oh, and if you're feeling like the game is insanely difficult, don't worry -- we feel that way too. :P
EDIT: Everything seems to be fixed and playable now!

One-Player Mode is now released! After a long wait, players would finally be able to challenge built-in opponents. Unfortunately, all challenges are currently unplayable, but I'm confident the TS Staff will fix this issue shortly.

One-Player Mode can be played through the Defend Link. Here is a sample of a One-Player challenge.

You have been attacked by Highwaylady Sara and the army Evil Medley [Defend your village!]
A mysterious masked female who attacks in the dead of night with her band of brigands. The last thing
you'll be thinking before she sticks a knife in your back is, "Gee, my pockets feel lighter all of a sudden."

At the moment, you may only challenge a certain One-Player Challenger so many times before you get a pop-up message similar to this:

"Highwaylady Sara has tired of attacking you today. Try again later..."
